Tracks of the week
Mad week music wise, so many releases it’s hard to know where to start. I’m just going to dive right in.
Jake: Cherrie – Aldrig Igen (Never again) Ft. Stormzy
Teasing us with the collab he’s getting ready with Solo 45, Stormzy just doesn’t stop. This time he has teamed up with Cherrie, Swedish R&B singer/songwriter.
Alex: Ital Tek – Redeemer and Commodo – How Dare You (Black Acre)
(he honestly sent me a list of 4 tracks and said he cannot make his mind up on the choice)
This week has been a huge week for Bass releases with the new Commodo and Ital Tek LP’s being absolute standouts for me. Ital Tek’s choir like vocals in Redeemer that slide in and out of perfect harmonies made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. When I posted this on a music group I share with some friends, my mate Lukas responded that ‘this was a great trip’ and that sums it up perfectly. It is an emotional journey and lives up to its name redeemer, providing a light at the end of the tunnel in a highly self reflexive piece. Commodo’s How dare you makes my hairs stand up for a different reason, with pummelling bass stabs that would be sure to knock you back into the bar on a system, a real stomper and something I cannot wait to hear played out. A special mention must go to Deft’s For a Sudden for his Bollywood sampling half-time masterpiece though.
Ross: P Money – Bookey (Remix) Ft Blacks & Little Dee
P Money and fellow OGz members Blacks and Little Dee put a fresh spin on Chips Bookey. P shows his lyrical ability by name dropping half the grime scene. Can you catch all of them?
Oisin: DJC – Capricorn
After a three year hiatus club constructs is back. Night Slugs stem of releases with material made for the dance floor. Newcomer or alias of current night slugs member (We don’t quite know) has brought club constructs back with style. Now on Vol 7. Capricorn is our go to track from this EP nothing but bouncing and vibing coming from this tune.
Emmo: Mura Masa – What if I go? and SYV – Grade
“Known by his stage name of Mura Masa, electronic producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Alex Crossan hails from the Channel Island of Guernsey located between England and France. A lifelong musician, Crossan began experimenting with beats and electronic production at the age of 15 and just two years later, his track “Lotus Eater” was picked up by a number of different BBC 1 DJs, effectively launching his career.”
“The track builds up similarly to “Knockin”, with Syv’s trademark melodic chords and bubbling textures suddenly exploding into a full-scale club weapon. Stream the heat exclusively below.”
Max: Ansome – Stowaway [PTCD007]
“Perc Trax is proud to announce ‘Stowaway’, the debut album from Ansome. A ten track collection of brutal UK electronics which marks the next significant step in a rapid rise that has seen him become a key member of Bas Mooy’s Mord crew and play a constant run of hardware based live sets across Europe.
A Cornish ex-pat who now resides in south London, Kieran Whitefield is the man who puts the dark in Poldark, combining a warm persona with a deadly serious attitude to his music. Consistently changing his sound as new equipment and techniques are utilised in his studio the album mixes up the type of 5am club rippers he is known for with an exploration of more spacious and atmospheric tracks.”
Piotr: Chance The Rapper ft. Saba – Angels
Chance The Rapper’s “Angels” ft. Saba was technically released last year, but it’s music video premiere is a perfect opportunity to listen to this positive and uplifting track again.
